Unless you’re a real devotee of British sports cars, you probably have never heard of the Morgan Motor Company, but the company - which has built hand-assembled sports cars in England since 1909 - is hoping to change that with a bit of hydrogen.
Morgan says it aims to become one of the first car makers to actually commercialize a car that runs on hydrogen fuel cells. In October 2006 Morgan announced it would produce a fuel cell based sports car called the Morgan LIFEcar. The hydrogen-powered car will be based on the company’s current Aero 8 model, pictured.
Pretty ambitious plans for a carmaker that employs just 155 people and produces about nine cars a week - a Morgan takes about three months to build.
Morgan is building it in collaboration with the UK Department for Trade and Industry, fuel cell maker QinetiQ, and other partners
Morgan cars are very light weight - some have wood frames - which should help Morgan develop a hydrogen fuel-cell car with good performance specs and good range.
Imagine having one of these in your driveway:
Now imagine having it run on hydrogen.
