Living in a Ball

If you’re looking to reduce your environmental footprint, Free Spirit Spheres of somewhere in the woods in British Columbia, Canada, might have the home for you. Free Spirit Spheres are 11 feet in diamater and can sleep four people. They are suspended from trees and accessible by rope ladders and bridges. The maker says the treehouses enable families to live in the forest with minimal impact on the forest.

The London Telegraph says the spherical treehouse homes look more like the homes used by the Ewok characters in the Star Wars film Return of the Jedi, and they’re right about that. But

Free Spirit Spheres are made of wood using boat-building techniques and are coated in fibreglass, making them waterproof and strong. They come with a small but fully-equipped kitchen complete with microwave, refridgerator and sink, and the remaining interior can be customized to your specs.

Free Spirit Spheres designer Tom Chudleigh told the Telegraph that uses for the Spheres “are limited only by one’s imagination. Healing, meditation, photography, canopy research, leisure and game watching are just some of the things you could do.”

Mr Chudleigh, from Vancouver, Canada, and a carpenter by trade, added: “The objective of this project is to be able to move into the rainforest and have an experience of it - with as little impact as possible. “I want to celebrate the beauty and energy that is already there, without changing anything.”

He is now in the process of designing a sphere which will hold a washroom, a shower and a sauna. He added: “It will produce only clean water and compost - with luck it could serve a whole colony of spheres on a remote setting.”

The spheres can be set up in three days. Want to try before you buy? They’ve got one set up as a rental unit.

To hell with hunting lodges and cabins. THAT’S the way to take a trip into the woods. Especially since you can get a great view.
Though, it would be cool if an innovative energy source could be thought up for it…It would just make it more complete.
