Recycled Plywood Bike Costs $35, One Size Fits All

Post #13 for the 2007 Green Blogathon

Here’s an interesting design from Andrew Maynard that uses widely available materials to create a bike that can be both mass produced and sold for very little. Called the OLC (One Less Car) Bike, the gears, chain, cogs, brakes and lights are all concealed within the ply webs of the frame. The majority of the elements are glued together (rather than mechanically fixed) and the concept is meant to be something of a disposable item; meaning this isn’t a bike that will last you very long. Then again, since it’s made from recycled materials (and meant to be recyclable) there’s a cool green circle of life going on.

Is it me or does it look uncomfortable?

Why is it that so many people will create renderings of bikes that seem to have no way to steer. This is lame.
