General Motors is advertising an electric car that doesn’t exist, reports Advertising Age magazine in its online 3-Minute Ad Age video report. Says AdAge:
Despite the fact that it’s a concept rather than a car, the Chevrolet Volt appears seven separate times in GM’s latest TV commercial about its fuel-efficient vehicles. Meanwhile, GM’s web tech pages note that the battery systems crucial to creating the electric-motor Volt have yet to be perfected. North American Sales P Mark LaNeve says the nonexistent car is being advertised as a matter of “awareness prepping.”
More cynical folks might call it “green-washing” instead.
