At first glance, this electric car from Volkswagen looks really beautiful. Sleek lines, killer attitude, and beautiful green attributes. But then you see that visor thing and it reminds you of your grandmother’s habit of shrink wrapping furniture in plastic. You look closer and realize that the detachable trunk isn’t really all that useful. In fact, if they lose that thing at the airport, you’re out part of your sexy car. Bummer.
Beyond the suitcase accessory, the visor really does serve an interesting purpose. It allows the car to communicate with the outside world. How so? Well, the large glass enclosure is actually made from flexible OLED film. In other words, this entire surface could be an image or video, allowing for some really interesting design tweaks. Imagine a video of flames traveling across this thing at night as it flies down the road and you get the idea.
As with all concepts, it’s more a work of art than a functional vehicle — but it’s still some great imaginative design that’s food for thought. Just bring your own luggage.
