I’ve seen several electric bike hybrids, but this one actually looks like something you could pedal around in daylight. Called the Matra MS1, this Human Electric Hybrid Motorcycle (HEHM) recently debuted in Paris and will hit the streets sometime next year. It’s powered by a 1 Kw Motor Wheel, takes advantage of regenerative breaking, and will get you 62 miles on pure electric. Top speed is limited to 28mph — but with a little tinkering I’m sure you could hack this into a death wish of some kind. From the article,
“The MS1 starts via a magnetic card swiped through the LCD display on the handlebars (which also indicates remaining battery power and speed) and an electric alarm is included along with LED lights for night-time commuting. Another notable feature often omitted from both motorcycle and bicycle design is the ability to adjust the height and depth of the saddle and handlebars.”
Prices are expected to come in at a bubble-popping $5K. So if you can get by just fine with the human power option, spring for a standard bike at a fraction of the cost. If not, don’t fret. Give this tech a couple years and we’ll see prices below $1K.

Awesome for big cities!! I love it!!
That bike is so sweeeeet! Man, I love riding my bike but after 15 or so miles I get a little tired. This bike would be the perfect excuse for people to start biking to work even if its like 30-40 miles away. Great Post!

This is a great idea. Although I wish someone would make some more inteligent decisions regarding colour and style…I mean just because I am driving a hybrid moped, I shouldn’t have to look like I am driving a hybrid moped.
Possible styles/colours options:
1. Skulls and chrome
2. Spikes and leather
3. Flames, Eagles, Old Glory, huge tires
4. etc. etc.
i kinda like the style of the thing but here and now i allready own an electric bike that will go 75 miles with a top electric only speed of a little over 30 mph and it only cost me £500 it can even take a passinger
