Dune fans every where will be stoked. NASA has finally figured out a way to recycle urine into drinking water. This is part of the larger Regenerative Environmental Control and Life Support System, or ECLSS, for the International Space Station (ISS) and is still getting perfected, and also uses condensed water vapor and trace contaminants from crew perspiration and respiration.
Not only does this have obvious application for when we contaminate all the potable water on the planet, but it will also be cheaper than shipping water into space on the shuttles, and will allow longer space missions.
