Back in February of 2006, the coffee was hot, the keyboards on fire, and the web alight with a feeding frenzy of eco-centric posts for 24 continuous hours. This blogathon was all in the name of a good cause as green bloggers from around the web chose charities to represent and raised money based on number of posts created during the period.
Almost two years later — and with the world more aware of environmental issues such as climate change and renewable energy — Ecotality LIFE has decided to kick the tires and light the fires once more for the 2007 24-Hour Green Blogathon, November 16th-17th. We’re hoping you’ll join us.
Here are the rules as previously set for the 2006 event:
• Choose a 6, 12, 18, or 24 hour shift. You need to post twice an hour on average to qualify for the Green Blogathon merit badge.
• Pick a non-profit that you will be raising money for.
• Make a post on your blog and tell everyone you know that you’re taking part in the Blogathon. Your readers can make a pledge- a penny, dime, dollar, or Benjamin for every post you make. If your going for 12 hours, they make pledges on 24 posts, 24 hours garners you 48 posts to pledge on.
• If you can’t start on Friday, you can pick us up on Saturday. We’ll be starting up at 7pm EST on Friday and rolling through the same time Saturday, so you’ll have company.
• You’ll need to arrange the logistics of your donors transferring the money to your non-profit of choice after the Blogathon. It might be a good idea to have them give it directly to the non-profit to cut down on things like PayPal fees, but, I leave that up to you.
• Please comment on this post to comfirm your participation, even if you have previously emailed me. Leave a link to your site and let me know how long a shift you are going to take and what time you’ll be starting. I’ll also want to know the non-profit you’ll be blogging for.
Remember: This event is a lot of fun, a great chance to network with fellow green bloggers, raise money for a good cause, and the perfect opportunity to watch that sunrise you’ve been meaning to witness for months (or years!).
