It appears that 2008 will be the beginning of a green revolution in the UK. People are becoming more and more concerned about how their form of transportation is affecting the environment. They are less concerned about the ‘looks’ of their vehicle and how fast it can go-and are turning to electric versions instead of the high powered gas guzzlers. goingreen.co.uk tells us about how Brits are demanding more fuel efficiency.
The UK is responding to this increase in EVs by installing recharging points throughout the country. By March of 2008, 250 recharging points will e installed in partnership with Elektromotive, elektromotive.co.uk and EDF Energy, the country’s leading energy company.
From the article:
“EDF Energy recognises the role EV’s can play in helping reduce the 85 million tonnes of CO2 our motor vehicles emit each year, which is why we’ve joined forces with Elektromotive to call on local councils to help make these vehicles a more viable alternative for motorists in the UK.”
With electric refueling ‘filling stations’ going in around the country, it makes the purchase of an EV a viable alternative to petrol fueled cars. Electric vehicles will play an important part in helping to reduce the 85 million tons of CO2 emissions from vehicles every year.
Will the US be next in line to figure out that this may be a good idea, or will we continue to produce high performance, gas guzzling transportation??? Kudos to the UK.
