D-Link Announces New Line Of Energy Efficient Switches

d-link_green_ethernet_switch.jpgD-Link is going to hook you up with green connections long before products compliant with the IEEE’s 802.3 standardization for Energy Efficient Ethernet are expected to hit the market. The major manufacturer of wireless and computer networking products announced a new line of desktop switches call Green Ethernet which is claimed to deliver 44% energy savings and performance of up to 300Mbps, lowering the operating costs for homes and small businesses.

The Green Ethernet switches will detect when the connected computer shuts off and will power down to standby mode accordingly. Also, while most switches use maximum power to support up to 100m cable lengths, the new products will automatically adapt power usages according to cable lengths.

D-Link’s European product manager Osbert Ong says, “”D-Link recognizes the significant market demand for energy-efficient networking products and is leading the initiative in making Green Ethernet a reality for the home and SME user.”
The first products of the Green Ethernet line, DWA-643 and DWA-556, will be available by the end of the year. Read more about it here.
