The problem with clothing from the future is that it looks like clothing from the future. Sure, it may power your gadgets, but you generally feel “geeky” wearing it around town. Thankfully, Inhabitat has pointed us towards a solar-powered jacket that looks like something out of a Banana Republic store.
The design comes from Ermenegildo Zegna. The jacket sports a number of solar modules around the neoprene collar that can pass energy through conducting textile leads for storage in a buffer battery or to charge a connected device directly. The voltage can be switched from 5V to 6V to handle different gadgets — and there’s even built-in LEDs to view the status of a charge.
Very cool stuff — but don’t expect it to come cheap. Zegna’s iPods jackets in the past have retailed for up to $750! Ah, the price of innovation. Hit the site for more.

Very cool! When the price comes down, I’d like to consider getting one!
