Safeway Inc (NYSE: SWY) recently remodeled its Dublin, CA store and included a solar power array to provide a significant portion of the store’s energy requirements. Company press release states 20% of the overall power requirement for the store will be provided by the solar system, and up to 48% during peak usage times. Safeway will install the solar power systems on a total of 23 of their super markets.
In 2005 Safeway converted all 295 of their gas stations to 100% wind energy power. That move made Safeway the number one retail buyer of wind energy in California and in the top 25 nationwide. As the company remodels stores they are buying energy efficient refrigeration and lighting equipment.
Safeway Inc. operates 1,740 stores in North America and their renewable energy policies can have a major impact on the continued growth of renewable technologies and use. So buy your dino fuel at the nearest Safeway gas station, and at least the fuel pump is wind energy powered. Hopefully, soon those stations will be offering renewable fuel sources for our vehicles. Kudos to Safeway!

Why does Safeway gas station keep there gas prices so high at there new super store and gas station, the other stations in Green Valley are owned and managed by ONE person and Safeway follows is prices or Circle K, when we can go 13 to 15 miles and save 18 to 24 cents, and when the new station 5 and a half miles from Safeway gas station said is would be only a couple of cents higher than in Tucson, and now a new FRY’S Market place will open up across from the new gas station in Sahuarita and I feel that Safeway will really suffer, but if they would keep there gas down like a few miles up they will keep there grocery customers.
