Product Flip or Product Flop?

Here’s an interesting eco-minded product that might just flip you out. I have never thought about surplus rubber from flip flop factories, but with production of most any product, waste in inevitable. With millions of sandals produced every year, a lot of surplus is produced. Instead of flipping this surplus into the landfill, some enterprising souls have taken on a project of recycling the floppy material into rubber doomats!

Using galvanized metal wires and the flip flop material, this transformed product is made in two sizes. They are made in the Philippines and the distributor of the mats, uncommongoods.com, tells us that due to the recycled nature of their unique product, size, color and pattern will vary slightly. I’d like to see this project go further, not only doormats, but perhaps beach mats, mats for pet beds or for a floor covering in the tack room of my barn!

The doormat sizes are 26×17 and 35×22 and prices range from $20-$40.
